Description
Remember those choose your own adventure stories? Well, now you can create them yourself - or let your students create them. Inklewriter is a tool that allows you to create and publish interactive stories. You can upload images to illustrate your creations as well.
Stories that you create in Inklewriter are not publicly accessible; you can choose to share them with whomever you wish with a variety of share options in Inklewriter. For a small fee ($10), Inklewriter will put your creation into a format that you can publish it (and sell it, if you so choose) on Kindle.
Students do have to create an account in Inklewriter in order to save their stories and continue working on them, but Inklewriter has a handy workaround for students who don't have email addresses (or if they don't want to use them to create an account): students can simply choose a unique name and add @inklewriter (e.g. jeremy05@inklewriter) and use this in lieu of an email address. (Or you can provide them with this name and a password so that you have a record in case they forget!)
Inklewriter isn't difficult to use, and the tutorials provided on the site are great. Creating a story can be quite time consuming, however, and there is a bit of a learning curve; this is something to think about when you are considering the time you might allot to student exploration and learning before students begin a project.
